Hydrostatic guides in OptoTech's UPG 2000 CNC astro-machining machine enable maximum precision in the production of telescope mirrors.

The Schunk Group has acquired Hyprostatik Schönfeld GmbH. The company is a technology leader in the field of hydrostatic systems and produces hydrostatic guides, screw drives and spindle bearings, among other products. The company's solutions are used in high-precision tooling, ultra-precision turning and optical machines in various industries (such as automotive, shipbuilding, turbine construction). Hydrostatic bearings offer the advantage of low sliding resistance, low wear and very good damping characteristics especially at high loads. Hyprostatik was founded in 1982, is based in Göppingen in Germany and employs 35 people.

Technological lead for OptoTech

"Hyprostatik and OptoTech are linked by an intensive development partnership," says Peter R. Manolopoulos, Member of the Executive Board of the Schunk Group and responsible for the Machinery & Equipment Division. OptoTech uses components from Hyprostatik in various fine optics machines, which ensure the highest precision in mechanical processing here. "By acquiring Hyprostatik, OptoTech gains the company as a long-term strategic partner and thus secures its technological leadership over the competition," Manolopoulos added.
