Considerably limited space

What

65 m² clean room area

Complete ventilation and air-conditioning technology concept according to DIN1946-4

Clean room class 1B

Why/the challenge.

The Ambulatory Heart Center Kassel carries out special cardiac catheter examinations on up to 15 patients per day at left cardiac catheter measuring stations. The measuring room and an associated monitoring room was to be retrofitted with a ventilation and air conditioning system in accordance with DIN1946-4. This was to fulfil the requirements of clean room class 1B. The targeted airflow was designed to keep germs away from the critical operating field.

There was only limited space available for installation in existing buildings. Various options had to be considered in the preliminary planning because there were no planning documents for the suspended ceilings. The conversion was to be realised in such a way that is was possible to continue operations in the second cardiac catheter measuring room. Connection to the existing building management system (BMS) was optional.

How/the idea.

The installation of the ventilation and air conditioning system was planned with the overall air conditioning concept. Thermal and hygienic air conditioning were to take place in a compact full air conditioning unit with integrated cooling and external air supply. The air conditioning unit was placed in a remote storage room.

The air-conditioned and pre-cleaned supply air was to be channelled from the air conditioning unit to the cardiac catheter measuring room or monitoring room via the duct system in the false ceiling of the corridor. Here, it was introduced into the rooms via ceiling air outlets with S-filtering. The rooms are pressurised and the supply air flows into upstream areas. The exhaust air is to be returned to the air conditioning unit as recirculated air via the duct system.

All technology between the air conditioning unit and the measuring room was being prepared for the expansion of the second cardiac catheter measuring room, which was subsequently commissioned. In the second construction phase, work was required only in the technical room and in the measuring room itself, which was to be air-conditioned.

What/the solution.

Vindur Compact 35.5 DXU 10.6 H air conditioning unit with self-cooling and external air supply

The air conditioning and HVAC system supplies two rooms measuring 39.56 m² and 25.94 m² with sterile air in accordance with clean room class 1B. The system is designed for an air volume of 3,100 m³/h with a fixed fresh air component of 400 m³/h. The air volume is reduced accordingly for operation in conservation mode.

The fresh air is drawn in from outside and fed to the Vindur Compact air conditioning unit via a duct network on the external façade. In the air conditioning unit, the air is pre-filtered with F7 filters, cooled, dehumidified if necessary, heated, and transported further.

The clean-room-compatible duct system for the supply and exhaust air between the air conditioning unit in the storage room and the two clean-rooms is installed in the false ceiling of the corridor. There is a second filter stage of quality class F9 in the supply air duct. The air enters the clean rooms via eight HEPA filter swirl diffusers with H 14 filters. The exhaust air is extracted via the OPAS stainless steel corner extraction system.

The air conditioning unit is regulated, controlled, and monitored using the tried-and-tested intelli.4 system. A colour touch-screen display is mounted on the air conditioning unit for operation. A remote control panel is also available in the cardiac catheter measuring room.
