The Schunk Group is investing 13 million euros in the further expansion of the Weiss Technik site in Balingen, where a new logistics center is being built.
The foundation stone has been laid: With a ceremony, the Schunk Group, together with representatives of the public and business partners, gave the starting signal for the next major investment in Balingen-Frommern. This is where a new logistics center for Weiss Technik, which is part of the Schunk Group, will be built over the next two years. The technology company based in Heuchelheim, Hesse, is investing 13 million euros in this.
"With this investment, Schunk is pursuing the goal of further strengthening the Balingen site, gearing it to the future and enabling further growth here," said Dr. Arno Roth, CEO of the Schunk Group, at the groundbreaking ceremony.
"Balingen is already one of the Schunk Group's largest locations and is set to grow further in the future," emphasized Peter R. Manolopoulos, Member of the Executive Board of Schunk and Managing Director of Weiss Technik. The new building was made possible by the acquisition of neighboring commercial properties, which has enormously increased the available space and opened up completely new perspectives for Weiss Technik's site development.
New level for logistics
The new building will take Weiss Technik's logistics to a whole new level. A total of around 6,000 square meters of usable space will be created there. Among other things, the logistics hall will house the sheet metal warehouse, the pallet warehouse and a small parts warehouse. In the latter, Weiss Technik is relying on state-of-the-art automated storage technology: the small parts will be stored in a so-called autostore and in future will be stored and retrieved by robots and brought to the warehouse staff. In addition, a new incoming and outgoing goods
and shipping areas will be built, and a partially covered delivery yard will be created.
"The new logistics building is an important building block for site development and provides the prerequisite for optimizing routes and processes in production and thus significantly improving productivity," Manolopoulos continues.
Environmental simulation systems for every area of application
Weiss Technik develops and produces high-quality and reliable environmental simulation systems for almost every area of application in Balingen-Frommern. Within Weiss Technik's worldwide production network, Balingen is the competence center for standard environmental simulation equipment. Whether temperature, climate, corrosion, dust or combined stress testing, Weiss Technik's equipment and systems can be used to simulate various environmental influences, especially with different temperature and humidity conditions.
Until 2021, the Balingen-based company was called Vötsch Technik and was then renamed Weiss Technik together with its Hessian sister company Weiss Umwelttechnik in order to have a better presence with higher recognition value on the international markets. Weiss Technik employs around 390 people in Balingen, making it one of the largest industrial employers and training companies in the region.
